On one of my visits to Chintalcheruvu to capture Devi, I came across a little boy, naked from the waist down, tumbler in hand, running toward a tap fixed to the ground. There was no water, and he began to cry. Had I just witnessed what I had only read about in newspapers and seen on television until then? A shortage of drinking water—something I had never experienced in my privileged life.
