Sumanth Marda’s work can be described as contemporary realism, specializing in figurative art and portraiture. After graduating with a degree in computer science engineering, his artistic career began in 2005 as a student of character animation at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California. There, he learned various forms of visual art, including drawing, painting, sculpting, and photography, following which he worked as a character animator in the gaming and film industry for several years.

Inspired by the culture, diversity, chaos, and stories unfolding around him in India, Sumanth began creating hyper-realistic, monochromatic works in charcoal—sometimes with a hint of acrylic—in early 2017. His charcoal renderings feature larger-than-life figurative subjects, capturing individual emotions and the emotional bonds between people. They convey a sense of tranquility, aiming to evoke a soul-stirring effect. Sumanth now also explores painting in oils.

He lives and works out of his studio in Mumbai, India.
