ABOUT
Sumanth Marda’s work can be described as contemporary realism specializing in figurative art and portraiture. After graduating with a computer science engineering degree, his artistic career began as a student of character animation at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, California in 2005. There, he learnt several forms of visual art including drawing, painting, sculpting and photography following which he worked as a character animator in the gaming and film industry for several years.
Inspired by the culture, the diversity, the chaos and the stories happening all around him in India, Sumanth started creating hyper realistic monochromatic works in charcoal, sometimes with a hint of acrylic- in early 2017. Sumanth’s renderings in charcoal feature larger than life figurative subjects displaying individual emotions and emotional bonds of people. They convey a sense of tranquility that aims to build a soul-stirring effect. Sumanth now dabbles and paints in oils as well.
Sumanth lives and works out of his studio in Mumbai, India.
